Is Text Message Marketing Really That Good???
It depends...on quite a few things, but there are some core issues that need to be brought to light first. So let's shine some light on what you can realistically expect.
- Not every business is built the same, or even the same type. For most businesses, in order for Text Message Marketing to work successfully, you need a type of business that gets repeat customers, and preferably those repeat customers will come sooner than later. For example, restaurants actually do quite well with text marketing, as long as their service, food and offer they send via text are good. Other businesses that don't have repeat customers - like say a Funeral Home, wouldn't benefit from it.
- If you aren't willing to do any work, then don't expect this to work for your business. You have to either do the work yourself, or hire someone to do the work for you to send the texts out to your customers. This is not a buy the service and they will come. You have to advertise the service in order for people to know about it, and encourage your customers to sign up. This means posting about your new text marketing service on your website, social media sites and having signs in your store promoting it.
- You have to have a great offer that has your customers wanting to sign up in an instant. This means you'll have to discount something in order for your loyal customers to sign up and get them into your database. If you just promote that you have this new texting service, the response rate will be very low. On the other hand, if you give away something fro free, than your response rate will go through the roof! Typically anything 50% or higher is a great offer.
- 98-99% of all texts are read within 3 minutes. This may be true, but that doesn't mean you are going to get that many people coming back into your store...Depending on your offer, you can realistically expect 5-10%.
